Real Time Locating System (RTLS) and Process Simulation in Healthcare

12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
W21C Multi-Purpose Room
GD01, TRW Building
3280 Hospital Drive NW

Article/Presentation Summary:

Other than asset tracking, Real Time Locating System (RTLS) technology can also be used in capturing patient and staff flow data. Some of the challenges of the accuracy of data have been addressed by adding the infrared technology to it. Process Simulation, as a decision support tool, can help healthcare decision makers in evaluation process and predictive analytics through running different “what if” scenarios. RTLS can be used in capturing data needed for Process Simulation in healthcare settings.

Learning Objectives:

1. To review RTLS technology
2. To review the history of Process Simulation in healthcare
3. To review the challenges of Process Simulation and how RTLS can be used to overcome
some of them
4. To identify some of the future use cases for RTLS/Process Simulation in healthcare

The W21C Journal Club is a self-approved group learning activity (Section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of the Certification program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
