Presentation Summary:

Healthcare practitioners and their patients currently face an overwhelming amount of medical information.
Physicians seeking expert recommendations find it difficult to read and apply the various hundred page
disease guidelines currently published. Hence only 50% of patients in North America receive the
recommended care as set out by these guidelines. Even if patients were to receive the best possible care from
their physicians, studies show that patients retain or comply with less than 20% of what their physician
recommended.

SnapDx builds interactive visual apps that liberate patients and doctors from the confines of purely text-based
interfaces. Our tools allow doctors to generate personalized treatment plans for their patients in accordance
with the latest medical evidence based on the patients’ unique medical history. Our app allows physicians to
share key information with their patients, reduces documentation burden and increases throughput of
patients in clinics. Better care, more revenue—what’s not to like?

Learning Objectives:

  1. Introduce the health information problems facing healthcare providers
  2. Understand the history of Clinical Decision Support (CDS) systems
  3. Consider potential new approaches to CDS and their integration within physician workflow systems

The W21C Journal Club+ is a self-approved group learning activity (Section 1) as defined by the Maintenance of the Certification program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.
