Maternal Mortality 2014 – From the Global to the Local Picture

Presentation Summary:

This presentation will address international progress towards reducing maternal mortality as presented in publication: Global Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health – So Near and Yet So Far NEJM 369(23):2226-35, 2013 Dec 5. Common themes between global and Alberta’s maternal mortality trends will be discussed, based on recent analysis of maternal death in this province between 1998 and 2011.

Learning Objectives:

1. Describe global progress towards reducing maternal mortality and under-5 infant mortality as it pertains to 2015 millennium development goals.

2. Identify top causes of maternal mortality globally and in Alberta.

3. Discuss interventions to reduce burden of maternal mortality at the global and local levels.
